Marchez! Walk!

There’s less than a month before the 2014 Paris Discipleship Training School (DTS) starts and we officially have 19 accepted students! As of right now, we represent 9 nations in the DTS: Mexico, Brazil, USA, South Africa, Canada, Costa Rica, Germany, South Korea, and for the big finish, FRANCE! Our first day of the school, February 5th, is coming quickly!

With our student numbers growing and time passing by fast, we are facing a lot of tight deadlines and are working steadily to get concrete things in place. For example, where are the students going to live? It is always a battle to get housing in Paris, but we strongly feel that God will provide apartments in our neighborhood, Belleville. Last week, YWAM Paris staff answered God’s call for an overnight, 12 hour prayer session with a special focus on housing.

We started our mobile 12 hour prayer meeting in our newest staff apartment. We began with worship and thanking God for all that He has done in this past season. It was a powerful start for the night that really led us into the desires of God’s heart.

We then marched our prayer time to the main road of Belleville, starting up at the Church of Jordan. This church is directly at the top of the hill of Belleville, and we wholeheartedly feel that it is the key point, the prophetic crossing grounds of God leading us over the Jordan River into His promise land.

We are fiercely praying for apartments to open up in Belleville in order to house our students and future teams, schools, and staff. Please be praying with us that God opens up the doors He has for us.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7 (ESV)

To end this blog off with a challenge, it’s the last week we are accepting applications for the 2014 Paris DTS. The last day to submit YOUR application is this Friday, January 10th. What are you waiting for? Email us or download an application from our website: http://www.ywamparis.com. Now is the time for you to TRULY KNOW GOD and MAKE HIM TRULY KNOWN, in Paris, in your home country, and in every direction God takes you!

A la prochaine!

Calling all MEN (part 2)

God has called specific people to specific places in the world, and when we don’t stand up and go to these parts of the world there is a big lack, and a big need! We strongly believe at YWAM Paris that to further the Kingdom of God we need men to step out and join our Discipleship Training Schools (DTS). Without them, our school is missing a vital piece to push forward. It’s like we are a puzzle missing an important piece that will connect the last bits; and you, men, are the missing piece! You joining our next DTS will push this school further and deeper than it could go without you!
We need men who are strategic, who are caring, who like challenges and adventures, and who are willing to step out of their comfort zone. Paris is not an easy city; it’s big, it’s crowded, and it also has a HUGE need for the power of God’s love to come. We need MEN here that can bring God’s love in a way only MEN can express! But to understand the full concept of bringing God’s love to the people of Paris, we need men who are ready to discover a deeper and more intimate love for Jesus Christ! Men that are not afraid to dive deeper into understanding the character of God and the future and goals that God has for them; to grow and be more like Jesus, the ultimate man!
So, men, we welcome you here in Paris. Come experience more of God’s nature and character; come discover His vast love for you, for Paris, and for the nations!
Need more convincing? Read the experience of one of our past students (and now currently serving as staff with us in Paris!)…

“So the reason I was drawn to YWAM Paris was definitely for my love of cooking and food, I’d known about ywam for many years but just hadn’t found a DTS that felt quite right for me until I discovered the school in paris which had a focus on things I was interested in and in a city I was curious about. During my school my relationship with God really grew and I discovered more about Him every week and more about myself, On my outreach to South East Asia God really spoke to me about having a heart for others and it was also in that time that God starting speaking to me about coming back to paris for to join staff, at first it was subtle with seeing little things that said paris around me and at first I thought it was just coincidence but by the end of outreach there was no denying that I was meant to be back in Paris.”

(English)
This blog post is specifically targeted for you, the French. This blog is not talking to North Americans, or Africans, or Germans, or Asians; it is speaking directly to you FRENCH. We have news for you! There have only been 2 DTSs in Paris and they were both in English. Only English. But we’ve grown, French speaking staff have joined us, and we have made a place for you here. We want to shake Paris out of the routine of “métro, boulot, dodo”. We want to see people step out of a meaningless life and step into the authority and promises God has for them, for you, for us, for the Francophone world!

Genesis 13:14-15 “And the Lord said to Abram…’Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.’ ”

The DTS staff have been praying for you and we really feel like God is calling out to you; He is reminding you that you have an inheritance here in France.

You have a special insight into France. You intimately know the beauty and gifts of this country that takes foreigners years to really understand. You can navigate the social rules of the French. You understand the heart of the culture and how best to bring the Gospel to the people here! You have the gift of arts, of food, and of culture and it is something worth sharing to others. Doing a DTS in Paris will help you cultivate those gifts to reach the Francophone world!

To be honest, here at YWAM Paris we love the French, we want to reach the French, and we NEED the French to help us bring God’s Kingdom to France!

If you want a perspective of a previous French student from our 2011 DTS with YWAM Paris, please read her experience.

I was a part of the first Paris DTS in 2011. It was an honor for me to be able to participate in the first ever school in Paris. At first I thought it was going to be a lot of French people joining in Paris to prepare to go out to do missions in the world. What a surprise for me to see that we were only three francophone’s, two French, and one French Canadian! Where are the French?

Right now I am serving the Lord in Asia, but my training started in France, through YWAM and through my church. The DTS in Paris prepared me to experience missions with new eyes and to work with a multicultural team. The school also helped me to learn, discover, and appreciate French history and the French culture, and to realize the impact it has on the world. France is one of the most visited countries in the world. YWAM France has a strategic role for training and equipping the French missionaries to go out to do missions…and for the foreign missionaries to have an impact in France.

To finish, my question for you is this: Why not do a DTS in France in 2014, if you already dream of serving the Lord in missions…? It is the time to get up and prepare yourself to go out to the ends of the earth…in other words, the question is: Are you ready to go?”

Calling all MEN.

In the Bible, God often teaches and speaks on the important influence and individual role that only a man can fulfill. That men were created by God to be leaders, men are meant to be strategic, and men were created by God to be strong in spirit.  We really feel that for our next Discipleship Training School, it is vital to have men. We know that God has called men to be in Paris for a unique reason.

Why men? Just like men are needed in the church, we need men in our schools. Not only do they have a special authority and role of protector, but we also need all types of gifts and characteristics to be a complete representation of the body of Christ. God never asked for a bunch of arms, legs, or just women to make up the body of Christ, but He said that it was necessary for all of the body to be functioning in its individual gifts to make a whole (1 Corinthians 12:27).

In Paris there is such a need for strong men who know their identity in Christ, who know the authority they walk in, and have a passion for pushing forward. We feel like God has big plans for the men on our next school to be men of influence and men who are not afraid to step out of their comfort zone.

Jesus was never a man who just sat on the sidelines and let others do all of the work, He was in the front line with His other disciples leading and instructing by action.

As a DTS team we really feel it’s important to call out you, MEN! Yes you, to walk in the fullness of who God originally created you to be! Don’t shy away from the call God has for your life, but go in head first with power and joy!

If you are not convinced by this blog so far, read one of our past student’s experience from his DTS with us in Paris.

Randomly one day I stumbled upon the YWAM Paris website and saw that they were going to be running a DTS. It said “Culture, Food, and Arts” DTS and to be honest, an “artsy” DTS was the last thing I was looking for. I had in my mind that I wanted to do something along the lines of an “adventure” DTS. However, for some reason I felt the need to fill out an application for the Paris DTS and see if I got accepted. I had already been to Paris once and had enjoyed my short time there—I never imagined going back for more than a quick vacation. Within a week I was accepted and 4 months later I flew to Paris to begin the DTS. At the beginning, I struggled with being in a “French” city and living the urban life. Soon though I found that Paris had a lot of things that attracted me. For example, I was able to travel the entire city via the Metro visiting historical sites, ancient churches, and famous monuments such as the Eiffel Tower. I was able to walk through the streets of one of the most well known cities in the world while growing in my relationship with Jesus. I was also able to build strong friendships with the other students on my DTS and grow in my confidence as an individual and as a man. By the time my 6 month DTS was over and we had returned from an incredible time on outreach in Asia, I felt like Paris was my home. I had a place there and it was great. I felt like a pro walking the city streets, speaking the French that I had learned, and asking God what else there was for me. I knew that I wasn’t called to Paris long-term, but man did the Lord sure give me a renewed love and perspective for the city. I wouldn’t have done my DTS anywhere else.”

Reaching the Nations in our neighborhood!

We are so blessed that we live in such a multi cultural and diverse neighborhood like Belleville! All one has to do is walk out the front door of the apartment and within seconds be met with a North African woman dressed in bright colored traditional dresses, or a little Chinese kid zooming down the hill on his scooter, or pass by the mini market owned by a family from Bangladesh. It’s every day that we get the privilege of interacting with the nations!  It was just another normal day when one of our staff, Lucie, was checking up on the tea towels that were in the dryer at the laundry mat and met a couple of African’s from Mali.

When Lucie first went to the laundry mat she noticed a man and a woman doing their laundry but she hadn’t spoken to them. When she returned back to grab her towels from the dryer she noticed them still there and curiously just asked God if He had a word for them. God instantly told her Spirit that one of them had pain on their shoulders and knees. At first Lucie just felt confused, was the word for the man or for the woman? Forgetting to ask God who actually had the pain, she just walked up to the man and asked him if he had pain on his shoulders or knees. The man just looked at her and gave a straight answer, no., and left the laundry mat. From that moment she knew it must have been for the woman.

At first Lucie asked if the lady had pain in her lower back and right away she said yes! Before she could even ask the lady about her knees, the woman added that she also had pain in her knees! Wow God really DOES speak!

Lucie asked the woman right away if she could pray for her in the name of Jesus, the woman then told Lucie that she was actually Muslim, but that she could pray for her anyways. When Lucie was done praying for her, the woman said she felt the pain leave from her lower back!

After that Lucie stayed at the laundry mat and helped the woman fold her laundry, while telling the woman all about the Gospel and how much Jesus loves her and wants to completely heal her and have a relationship with her.

Lucie still isn’t sure if the lady’s pain went away all the way, or if she is even thinking about how Jesus wants a relationship with her, but she still prays that God will reveal His truth to her.

“…But God wants to bring the truth and not the lies. And true healing.  Through the Holy Spirit we are capable of anything, but with our own strength it’s impossible. But it is really important for us to pray that the Holy Spirit will show them in their dreams. They need to have a personal revelation. And for us to love them.”

Marseille Staff Mini Outreach 2013!

We didn’t realize that there was more to France then just Parisian life, until 8 of YWAM Paris staff traveled on a 16-hour bus journey down to Marseille, France for a mini outreach and adventure with God! In our prayer times for Marseille we really felt like God wanted us to bring joy, a childlike Spirit, and give worship to God in the city. God also made it clear to us to encourage our fellow YWAM friend Cordula, who is re-pioneering a YWAM base there. We felt led by God to be a prayer blessing to her and to encourage her faithful steps in following God’s voice for Marseille.

Every morning we prayed and asked God what His plans for the day were, and He imparted on us all ideas for the day. It was so special that God has a desire to create the day with us; we were really blessed in those times. So each morning we grabbed out our maps and notebooks and figured out how to fit all of the quests He had asked for us to do. So we joyfully worshipped and danced at beaches, blew God’s blessings over the port through prayer and prophetic acts, laughed and drew with chalk with kids around the downtown area of Marseille, and just really embraced the childlike Spirit of following our Dad to do whatever He wanted us to do!

It really showed for the time that we were there that God really wanted to show us how to work as a team, and not just depend on our own knowledge. One time we tried taking a boat to a beautiful beach, but we accidentally took the wrong boat. All night it seemed like we kept on missing buses and having to walk all over the place, but even in times like that God really kept our vision ahead on the goal. That HE was, is, and always be the head of our team and that we are just lost children without Him. How humbling and beautiful!

We were only in Marseille for 4 whole days, but for each day we really trusted God that He would be the one to continue to sew in the grounds of Marseille and bring His presence and His will to that city!

to be Valued

One of the things God loves is small beginnings. He adores redeeming cultures. He specializes in taking what the enemy thinks is “his great idea for destruction” and creates it into something beautiful!

We as YWAM Paris continue to be amazed by the quality and ability God has to restore things that became “of this world” and to take it back for the Kingdom of God, especially with art!

One of our staff, Ellie, has a passion for redeeming photography and giving back the glory to God when using this type of art form. Man likes to take credit for photos, but really photography is just capturing a tiny glimpse of what God already created.

Last Wednesday two of our staff, Ellie and Lucie, went out around Notre Dame with a camera and a heart for just following the Holy Spirit with what He wanted them to do. On their walk to Notre Dame they just asked simple questions of whom they should talk to, and God gave them a little hint, he said “blue shirt”. It wasn’t long before they spotted about a dozen people in blue shirts. At least the options were open!

They got to speak with around 25 people that day and got to photograph nearly all of them. Some people were shy, but when they saw their photo on the tiny camera screen their eyes lit up.

The goal of that time was to show VALUE to people, let people know that what they are doing no matter how small or big is worth a listen. That they were created in the image of God and are worth to be told they are BEAUTIFUL.

Hopefully one day we will try to get permission to post the photos, or maybe even get a special blog going, but for right now God is just budding a desire to get out there. So we shall see where this takes us!

Treasures in our neighborhood!

God is always pointing out the little treasures in our neighborhood, Belleville.  Like the sweet, giving family that works at the fruit and vegetable store, the creative graffiti that the buildings are painted with, and the kids that play soccer at Parc de Belleville, a treasure that God pointed out to Melanie, one of our staffs here in Paris.

Melanie is one of our staff from the US, she has been pretty much playing soccer since she was able to walk, so you can say that soccer has been a huge part of practically her whole life! When Mel came to staff last year in Paris she started playing soccer with the people at the park. She told me that first time she played soccer there everyone who was playing were all amazed and took videos on their phones and sent it to their friends. From then on she continued going back to the park. When I asked her how she felt the first few times playing soccer with the kids she said, “I liked it because there was people of all ages there, and they invited me to play. Not just the little kids, but the adults too would invite me. And whenever I would pass them in Belleville they would call out and say, ‘Hey, Coach!’”

She explained to me that since she can talk to them more in French this year she is able to communicate better with them. Her goals for the next year with the kids and adults that play soccer there is just to gain respect, and most importantly gain friendship with them.

I asked her when she feels the most joy with the kids and she said it’s when there are all ages represented on the field. Not just young kids or teens, but adults and parents too. They all can learn from each other and grow.

“I see so much potential for their soccer skills to grow, and their life skills. And when you’re a little kid, all the kids just run and crowd to the ball. But when you grow up, it’s about the whole team picture and helping each other out. So it’s really cool to watch them learn how to work as a team. Just like life, as a kid you want all the attention. But when you grow you learn that the world doesn’t revolve around you but it’s about working as a team, and working for others as well as yourself.” -Melanie
